Our Vision

Provide an unmatched private consulting practice specializing in the intersection of cyber security, security, behavior, and critical thinking based on over 20 years of Law Enforcement, Criminal and National Security Investigations, Digital Forensics, Threat Assessment and Criminal Profiling experience.

Our Philosophy

In a story told in Plato’s The Republic, Gyges was a mythical shepherd boy who overthrew a king in ancient Lydia after he discovered a ring that could make him invisible. On some level, this power is now available to everyone through the anonymity of modern digital technology. As the story of Gyges indicates, even before modern technology, “invisibility” was desired by most criminals to avoid attribution.

To properly prepare for the threat, and engage if need be, you need to be able to understand the technical aspects, integrate human behavior, and provide you with a near immediate road map of options and strategy, clearly, and without bias.

Our Mission

Assist our clients in understanding security, cyber security, criminal behavior and all factors involved in important investigations. Often this entails assessing the law enforcement, national security and counterintelligence implications and potential pitfalls in dynamic environments and crisis situations. Tactically, and strategically over the long term, our solution involves training and assisting them with how to interact with governmental and private organizations who have equities in these areas – both domestic and international.

Specializing in cases involving: Behavioral Profiling / Criminal Investigative Analysis, Insider Risk and Threat, Law Enforcement Investigations and Methods, Risk and Dangerousness Assessment, Online Behavior, Terrorism, Interview Strategies.

It is difficult – at best – to keep up with the exhaustive list of Cybersecurity tools and appliances. Companies large and small are failing with the “best in breed” mentality – investing significant resources in technology, sometimes unnecessarily, with no comprehensive strategy or perspective on human behavior. We will assess your security stack through our unique skillset of assessing predatory behavior.

Security Crisis, Situation and Environment Assessment and Assistance – Our consultative approach leverages international counterterrorism, national security, cyber and protective investigative experience in high pressure situations with trained tactical operator, sniper, high risk operation and surveillance skill sets when required.

Meet Steve Bongardt

After graduating from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland and a short career as a Naval Aviator, Steve went to work in institutional capital markets on Wall Street. He became an FBI Special Agent in 1995 and retired in December 2015.

During his career, Steve served as an FBI Profiler at the BAU, and later an instructor at the BSU, specializing in cyber and terrorism related offenders, remote personality assessment, language analysis, the detection of deception, and behaviorally based interviewing. As a field agent, Steve was a terrorism investigator (to include 9/11), a SWAT operator, sniper, a computer forensic examiner, and finished his career working espionage matters.

Notably, highlights of his career include being with the first handpicked team of FBI agents that went into Afghanistan in December 2001 after 9/11, starting the Cyber Behavioral Analysis Program at the BAU, and leading the digital forensics effort in the Navy Yard Shooting investigation in 2013.

His efforts to fight the FBI and CIA bureaucracy in the days leading up to 9/11, in order to pursue one of the 9/11 hijackers, has been documented in the public media, the 9/11 Commission Report (pp. 268-272), and by the Report of the Joint Inquiry into the Terrorist Attacks of September 11, 2001 (by The House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, pp 148 – 154).
